«Usually, death row was called „the last mile“; we called ours „the Green Mile“ — the floor was the color of faded limes»
«Как правило, камеры смертников называли «последней милей»; мы называли наши камеры „Зеленой милей“ — пол был цвета увядших лаймов»
«I think about all of us. Walking our own Green Mile, each in our own time».
«Я думаю о всех нас. О том, что всем нам придется пройти свою собственную Зеленую милю, каждому в свое (отведенное) время»
« He...infected you with life?»
«Он… заразил тебя жизнью?» (после того, как Коффи оживил мышку)
« John Coffey, just like the drink, only not spelled the same»
«Джон Коффи, как напиток, только пишется по-другому» (так Коффи представлял себя другим)

Things aren't always what they seem, they thought just because the guy was with the children that he had to be the one who had done it, and it didn't help that he was black, that made him automatically guilty, which I think is wrong for them to have done that but back in those days it was acceptable
I think that the lesson of this movie is that sometimes good comes in the form of bizarre things
I liked this short episode very much. I am thinking who feels more pain...that virtuous man, John Coffey who has been convicted unjustly or Paul who is trying to help in this episode. And, perhaps, Paul's pain is deeper because he feels about acting bad...against the conscience. But seems, there is no another way for both of them. Kind giant is tired from everything, from all solitude and unfairness. Of course, he wouldn't like to die but he accepts his destiny as true way like saying-let it be. Maybe, there is a kind of wisdom for all of us. We should forgive our enemies and accept our way as God's will when life brings to us unexpected and, maybe, unpleasant things.

Thank you for such a deep and interesting comment!
Thank you for such interesting video) I'd like to watch it.
“The green mile” is one of those movies that make you stand in admiration as much as feel unease. Frank Darabont’s film is a piece of a genius work. I think there is no person who could stay indifferent to this story. It touches your heart in its very depth and you can’t hold your tears back.
Having been made in the USA, this movie though doesn’t contain even the smallest trace of that refinement which is characteristic to the majority of the USA cinema products. The reality shown us in this movie hasn’t been retouched, softened or adapted for those who want to protect themselves from feeling pain or discomfort. The director of “the green mile” doesn’t spare our feelings (as well as Marat
, choosing this episode – so emotionally intensive and hard not to cry while watching – for us to work on) and shows us the ugliness of the reality as it is.
But there is no cruelty against a viewer. On the contrary, Frank Darabont is like a kind doctor who gives us a bitter pill to make us see the harm we, people, do to each other and to heal us from our flaws. To make the blind see again. You don’t watch the movie, you even don’t live it through, you “co-suffer” it with the characters. It goes through your mind and heart leaving you in a state of pensiveness.
The biggest trick of this masterpiece is that in the end, having seen a lot of ugly things and having felt a lot of agonizing emotions, you don’t find yourself in state of despair, emptiness or depression, but vice-versa – you feel easiness and hope.
Thank you, Marat, for reminding us that USA cinematography has not only action and comedy movies, but masterpieces as well.

I have nothing to add to this, Elizabeth...Great words!
Your comments are masterpieces on their own!
Thanks. I´m flattered!

John, a true miracle of God. Throughout his life, he tried to live with dignity, helping everyone who needs, but did not succeed. People arecruel to each other, but to John and they were angry at all. Unable to go on living like he sees on his way but straight road, the road to death. This is very sad and profound film.
Saw this movie very long time ago and now i'm going to review this again. This is really very strong moment. Everything that he said is very close to everybody who sometimes thinks over yourself, your life and about what happens in the world. Don't know why but it was harder to understand what Jhon says. I played the video many times but only after reading the english text i could understand every word.
Thanks for this course!)
This is one of the best films i have ever seen. I think, nobody can stay indiffirent after wayching it. Thera to many ideas to discuss. Sad to realise, but we sometimes can be so cruel, so cold-blooded... John says he is not affraid, but he is. He says so just to calm Paul,to make him not to feel guilty/ John is wise and at the same time he is like a child. It is a great gift if you can see things with the children-eyes.
It's discovering for me that this story like story of Jesus. I always liked stories which written by King. When I was young and seen this film first time I dropped a tear.
It's a good film. It have got Oscar absolutely deservedly. I think they could give a couple of Oscar yet!
To: Anton
Yes the story really resembles the story of Jesus.
Apart from what I have already mentioned, the Prison is called the Cold Mountain.
Jesus was also crusified on mountain Golgofa
To: Nasty
Yes Nasty the episode is really a bit hard to understand by hearing.
I watched this film several years ago and I liked it very much! Although the film duration is over 3 hours, I didn't get bored.
Especially I liked story of the trained «circus mouse», where very dangerous and cruel men have been so kind with a little amusing creature.
This movie taught me to forgive enemies, to appreciate life...and mostly it gave me faith in people
The Green Mile is the one of the best films I've ever watched. This is one of the movies I recommend to my friends to watch. I love films with deep meaning, which teach us kindness.
As for the episode, on the one hand, I think that it was such a pity that John Coffey decided to die, although he could survive and do many good things and wonders for people.
But on the other hand, the screenplay follows the biblical story with the execution and resurrection, so the audience is given the hope that the death of Coffey was not in vain.

A really great post! Thank you very much!
«The Green Mile» — one of my favorite movies and one of the very few in the end which I was sobbing. First time I saw it when I was 11 years old, but I don’t fully realized the deep sense, which sends this picture.
John does not inspire trust at the beginning of the film, even a — a huge uneducated clack man, you never know what can be expected from him. But when he shows his healing abilities, most of the prison staff began to show deserved respect for him.
Special thanks for this fragment. After seeing it in the original language, I wanted to review the entire film in English. Pirate translation clearly doesn’t give the right emotions while watching.
To: Andrew
Absolutely agree with you on the lack of emotions in even officially translated movies
The episode is very heart-touching and it made me to think over a lot of things in my life. The book never has to be judged by it's cover, and so do people... Jonh Coffey is a 2 meter giant, but his soul is pure as a child's. It's usually very difficult to life in our cruel world for such kind of people. But they never complain... And bring the purity to the lives of people they enter, and no one can fight the light they bring... But even these pure people can break, and this falling of an angel, brought to Earth to show us the best what we can be, can leave no one indifferent...
To: Alsu
Thank you Alsu, your comment was also heart-touching!
THIS FILM IS ONE OF THOSE RARE AMERICAN FILMS I CAN NEVER FORGET.I CAN SAY I ADMIRE IT!THAT IS WHY I AM SO HAPPY TO WATCH THIS EPISODE AND TO RENEW MY IMPRESSIONS. I LISTENED THE TEXT 5 TIMES AND NAW CAN UNDERSTAND IT QUITE WELL. THANK YOU,MARAT!
I've never seen this film before but I've heard about it. This short fragment made me think that the film is very deep and philosophical. The idea of people's indifference to pain and loneliness of others was concerned a lot of times in books and movies. And in this episode it was expressed in new way. Analyzing the fragment I learned that you're supposed to be very happy person, if you have somebody to help you in times of trouble. Especially it's important for such particular and extra-sensitive persons like John.
Thank you for this clip. I got a great experience of understanding John's way of speaking.

Thank you! A good post!

the film makes me cry. I cant see it again, but I remember every single frame.
I like parables, so the film is one of them. About life, death, unfairness, suffering and the meaning of all of that. The lesson is nobody is able to kill the soul
People can act unfair with someone's body, but with someone's soul God acts fair. And the place for the good soul is in Heaven. And it diesn't matter what did they do with it's body.
I't soooooooooo difficult to write such delicate things in English. I always feel, that I write not what I think...
To: Eve
Thank you Eve, that was a really great post!
Your English is very good, and I think I managed to get what exactly you wanted to express.
Well, when I saw the film Marat has prepared for us, I was so inspired and happy, because I know that The GREEN MILE film is a tremendous movie.
I watched it for the first time when I was about 17-19 years old. I clearly remember all my feelings and emotions. By the end of the film I was sobbing and asking myself "Why people are SO cruel? Why can't people live in peace and harmony and so on and so forth. It immersed me to Philosophical thoughts about good and evil, sense of life and love.
I may say that it really touched my heart and my consciousness.
As the story of Jesus Christ, the story of John Coffey teaches us to be kind, honest, merciful and more tolerant. The new way of showing an old story is a great method to bring people back from their money dedicated and every day routine issues and life to thinking on high moral principles, making their hearts softer and purer.
Thanks a lot!
I think this episod is a very exciting for all of us.Mentally we are mourning with the main charakter John Coffey. This man has got a big, very kind and loving heart, but his load is too heavy and he must died have taken a sin guilty man.John will us the important lesson — do kindness for all people, love and help them, try being kind, honest, patient for everybody, cause we will give the answer about ours lifes before God and this is truth. We shout remember it.To my mind these films are very useful,it doing us kinder. Thanks,Marat!!!
The Green Mile is undoubtedly one of the great movies ever. i can hardly emagine that there was or is anybody who wasn't inspired, who failed to be moved after watching it. this is a little bit a story about Jesus, about a son of God who wasn't belived, understood. are we so bad that we just can't belive there is someone good? we lost our faith. we don't deserve being sent such John Coffeys...

an idiot. WTF??
"The Green Mile is a very touching and unforgettable story of an unfairly convicted man. His appearance seems villainous at first, but he turns out to have a huge kind heart.
John Coffey is a real hero. His attitude to all people is amasing. He sees good things even in those who treat others badly, he is ready to understand and forgive everyone. John is a miracle. he is gifted not only with his kindness, but also with the ability to cure. That was his gift and his curse as well. Because he was too sensitive and naive. John took too close to heart all the pain and grief surrounding him, which made him miserable. And he was very lonely; noone could share his suffering and help him to cope with it. He was all alone to oppose this severe world and to make it better.
I think I will bring your lessons not only new knowledge but also become an incentive to see all those wonderful movies that for some reason I still have not seen before. Unfortunately, I can only analyze one episode that I saw. I have before me two. They share with each other something very important and sacred. And in their intonations I hear a deep sadness. This is a very touching moment. Men are usually so chary of words, and hide their feelings.
Sorry, I lost a word in my text. " have before me two men"
To: Ira
That's ok, noone is going to punish for your mistakes ))
Hello!
Unfortunately, I haven't seen this movie again. But I try to do it soon.
This episode is very emoutional, so I've a bit problem to analyse it. I think, it's a very difficalt situation for bouth heroes. John speaksabout he wouldn't want to live more, because it would be agonising for him. Paul has to choose beetwen his job and his moral convicnion. And these bouth decisions will change life of the men exactly.
One man prefers death instead of lonliness in life, cruelty of people. I don't think, that he's suddenly made this resolve. All normal people always want to live, not to die! I suppose, that hero had long, difficult and terrible way to such decision.
And policeman's choise isn't simple for himself. In my opinion, it's unusually for the man, who workers in the sistem of punishment, to ignor the order. It means, that the prisoner has change the life of own warder. I don't know what happened before it, but I propose, that people arround John, will be change like Paul.
I have seen this film few times and I'm ready to watch it again and again.
The whole day I've thought about the lesson I learned from this movie, but I still can't phrase it.
I'm sure that this film can't leave indifferent somebody and maybe this is the main value of this film. When you are impressed, you start to think and something changes inside you, usually in better way. In this film you can see how unfair could be life. How people's cruelty can kill so rare in our life «true miracle». If you often think about it, you try to escape some wrong steps, you choose your words in conversations with close people more carefully, you try to do something good for other people. I can say it about myself. I try always remember that all people need love in this World! And such film as a Green mile is a good reminder about all these things for all people!
Actually I can talk about it for a long time, because it's the thing about which I'm worried seriously.
To: Marina
Thank you, those were very sincere words!
It's one of my favourite films. I've seen it four or five times, and I always cry at the end. This short episode is philosophical. I think that everyone had such moments in his life when he or she felt as sparrow in the rain. It's so important in such moments to have a person who can understand and empathize. Loniliness is one of the things which only strong person can bear.
Brilliant film! Talanted actors, ecxellent director's work. Deep, touchingly...
We see the prison, awful place where prisoners sentenced to death live their last days. What good can we find here? But John becomes ray of light in this dark place — one of God's real miracles. We won't see happy end and I think it's good, otherwise impressions wouldn't be so strong. John is such inspiring, pure person that even the death doesn't frighten him more than people's spite and his own loneliness. Cruelty, unfairness, lie, meanness — all that we see in this movie, but feeling of hope is more stronger and it's wonderful.
By the way, story about little mouse is almost the most optimistic in the movie. Criminals and their guards take care of the little creature. For me that means that not everything is lost and in every person there is something kind.
Hello!
I was not seen «Green Mile», although оur family has this disc and I have wanted to watch a movie long time, but it has not yet reached.
What is the lesson I learned from a fragment? First, what а vision is very important: I read the English text and listen to a movie. And an empathy did not have. Аfter that I began to see how heroes told with their facial expressions. Of course, I think the effect of the film is still small, but once the game of Tom Hanks liked. Or maybe I'm know he as an actor and his manner, and another actor was new to me & so I not understand him.
I have not received a final lesson, but enjoyed an English speech. It was very difficult to repeat the actors , do not have time
Thank you!
I think that this episode is for expanding horizons already experienced translators.
Had not yet memorized the text, I could not understand what he was whispering about.
In most films the actors play so that their slang without subtitles is very difficult to
understand. But in general, the episode made a great impression on me. It made me one more
time to think deeply about the meaning of life.
First of all I think it's a good episode to learn words and phrases but a bit difficult for listening.
The episode remind about the day of judgment. Paul remembers it when he's doing something. Well, it happens that the man who has to be unemotional in his job becomes a good guy, a bit of romantic.
And also I see a man who is really tired of his life around ugly people. Mostly of us just doesn't care about others feeling. So step by step we're losing our own senses. We live in evil. We made it and we continue to make it. Too sad. People, let's done with it.
I'll add «Green mile» at the list of movies that I should watch. It seems worthy.
Thank you!
To: Kamila
Thank you!
Well, this lesson seemed difficult for me, the real test of nerves and will power, with great difficulty, I realized that John Coffey says.
What I learned from this video? First of all, dull execution of their work will not lead to anything good.
Good and evil — a symbiosis, resulting in the execution of the order of the death penalty Paul Edgecombe, saved from the torment of John Coffey. As Maxim Gorky said : «A man needs a man», without friends, John Coffey came to the last point — wishes to die.
“The Green Mile” is one of the best films I’ve ever seen. This film sets everyone thinking about life, about people’s cruelty, about destiny and loneliness. And I like such films very much
I think everyone can talk about this film and it’s philosophy for a long time. Because it’s close to our souls. Everyone felt loneliness, everyone faced with people’s cruelty at least once a lifetime. Our world is full of it. “There’s too much of it”.
I think this fragment is one of the most philosophic in the film. It set me thinking about life and the most important things in it once more.
Sometimes we forget such things. People need to think about it. People need such deeply philosophic films.
Thank you, Marat!
Why? Why I didn't watch this film before? How can I ignore maybe one of the best on my favorite actor Tom Hanks's career list's film?! I'm so ashamed before myself firstly...
Well, so what I can say about this episode. How can you understood, it impressed me. Yeah, these simple words occupies such information and senses which sometimes I can't to find in simple tipical american films (no, I don't like american stupid comedy
) After watching first what I did it visit page of «The Green mile» on kinopoisk. wow, 9.1! It's really strongly and cool!
Thank you, Marat, now I know what I must to watch firstly when I'll have free time) The secondly is «300»
It's undoubtedly true, that our world is cruel. People are killing each other every day. Many people do not see it or they do not want to see it, but some of us are very sensitive. They can feel the pain of mothers who lost their children and other people pain. In my point of view, this episode of such a great film teaches us to sympathize and to look at the people around us more careful.
This is movie based on Stephen King's book and i readed this book. King is my favorite writer. I like him books in a genre of horrorr, but he has books without horror. It is him novel «Green mile», «Hearts in Atlantida» and short story «Redemption from Shawshank».
This movie is make me sad. It is very good movie with good actors performing.
Good choose. Thank you Marat.
The movie is totally amazing! When my friend told me that «The Green Mile» is a 3-hour movie, I was confused. I wanted to watch it, but thought I'll be bored. But then I was amazed by the actors, and script, and the idea! When yesterday I saw the fragment from the movie in the lesson, my heart gave a huge bound. I felt a little nervous, maybe because of the greatness of this masterpiece. Thank You for this reminder. The whole world would be better if they watched «The Green Mile»!
«Walk a mile you'll never forget.»
On my mind this film really helps people to become kinder and more sensitive to other people. It makes us think about the eternal values, such as assistanse, love, friendship. But this episode tells us about person, who was alone in the world. There was no friend or just man, who could understand his feelings. And it was very difficult for him to live in such aggressive environment. Only one officer have understood him, but it was too late — human"s cruelty killed him.
P.S.This episode was rather difficult to understand for me
I was wondered when I saw this episode in second lesson. Great choise!
I have fantastic memories with this movie. And I want to tell about it.
Once my friend said I should watch one movie because it can change my view on the world. I think all of us heard this phrase sometimes. I had critical mood and I thought that this name can't promise interesting emotions. «Green Mile» — that it means anyway? But when he said it by book Stephen King I decided watch it.
And ... I'm cried at the end.
I never felt so much different emotions at one moment. I was all in their reality. So powerful personality in wrong, really owful situation. Fantastic little line's like fate the mouse in the prison. I felt a lot associations with real life. Not so big and important but we can find it everyday in everyone. Hate, kindness, humanity, power, honesty... I thought about that was my decidion in their situation? And I didn't knew. THis movie made a mess in my head.
After I read the book. First of all it can't be a secret for someone — this writer really genious. If someone don't read King's books — let's do in right now! He used simple but effective situations for presentation human person on different sides.
I know a lot other great writers but Stephen King, of course, on the top.
Thanks for awesome memories. It was pleasure to remember this movie.
Great! Only the second lesson — and right away one of my favourite movies, one of those that moved me to tears... Since this movie was produced I watched it probably a hundred times. And I remember I was suprised at finding out, that it was Stephen King, who wrote the novel the movie was based on. The «King of Horror» managed to create such deep and marvellous story! (it was later when I learned about his non-horror works
)
In this short episode we can see the depth of John Coffey's suffering. His Gift was also his Curse. And of course he was tired of all that cruelty and pain he saw and felt all the time. Because he wasn't just healing wounds or diseases, he let it through (as a metaphor of it we can regard the black «cloud» he exhales after his «wonders»). And we can also understand the suffering of Paul Edgecomb. Not just because he had to electrocute Coffey, but because he knew that John Coffey was innocent and moreover he tried to help. Coffey was found guilty only for the color of his skin.
When I watched this movie I could not stop crying for a long time, because of the understanding that the world is cruel."The Green Mile" shows that there are people in the world who bring the good free of charge and sacrifice themselves for the sake of people. This is a holy people. And we should try a little to be like these people!A heavy film.
Marat, thank you for your work.
in the passage liked the transfer of idea about the purpose of life. no one knows where we are going and why. and in many situations we can't even ask someone with perhaps this is why we are lonely like a sparrow in the rain.
for myself I found out that it is not necessary to do evil in search of правды. only creation of good can save our souls and show the right way
I've never seen this film, but this little excerpt has a very large sense. Very interesting words: Tired of being on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. Will be interesting to see another excerpt from the film.
This episode is very touching!John Coffey really looks like a Jesus. He is so kind, full of love and patience. He sacrifice all of gave his live.
It is a pity that the majority of prisoners are unguilty people who were forced to sit and have to be social outcasts. The laws of the human heart is not subject to the laws of the State.
John has a huge heart which fits the patience, intelligence, kindness, love of neighbor, forgiveness. Why do these people become less and less?
I was impressed with the words"I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world...every day." That's true-the world is full of pain and loss, and only people with a good heart and pure soul can feel it all on himself like John and Paul.
Films like The Green Mile make us think about many things and of course, cry.
Personally, I cried:)
It is no accident, this movie is one of the best in the world/Every person who watched it thought about his own sins, about people around him and about responsibility.
And can u be responsible for your acts?

Thank you, a very interesting post!

Thank you, the film is really fantastic! So is the author of course
Thank you, i want to yet!
I can’t stand violence in movies. But this one is exception. This is because together with violence in the movie very much kindness. A strange combination, is not it? It has some episodes where you laugh and some scenes that finally make you cry. It’s not a film only to «kill time». This film is intended to think, to conclude, to enjoy the «premium class» of cinema. This film is without a doubt one of the best films I have ever seen. The actors are all incredible, they get into their characters so well that you forget they are actors and you believe everything they say. And I think that the the main idea of this movie is that “it's difficult to love others in our fallen world, and it love eventually kill us, but it’s worth it.”
What can i say? It s one of the most breathtaking movie in my life, one of my favorite one! I dont
remember how many times i have watched it.
Maybe 10 or more...It s a unbelievable story about infinite forgiving kindness, about friendship, about
the great holy love to all alive, about faith in miracles, about human soul...How to explain what
i have felt?
I have cried with Tom Hanks hero together, have laughed at the little great-haired immortal mouse,
I was happy because of the sick people s recoveries...
The great lesson I have learned from this movie was to trust in God s miricales like John Coffe,
that there is always place for forgoving and kindness in our hearts and souls.
Thank you, Marat, for your choice of the second lesson!
I have seen this movie and it has made strong impression upon me for long time.
This film has mentioned my heart, my soul and had forced to weep and also to look at the situation philosophically from two parties. On the one hand the execution it's an awful tragedy and on the other hand it's disposal of tortures and problems.
I have been admired by John's kindness, honesty, decency, his pure soul. He so much loved his «boss», despite that he was on other party of a prison cell.
Such people like him are big rarity nowadays.
Also an actors' playing is remarcable and the movie forces to reflect on much.
Of course «Green Mile» is very emotional film.
Injustice in our time a lot and a of prisoners by mistake, but the mud is not importantin the film, the main thing is the gift that God gave John Coffey, a gift that brings him nothung but pain and anguish. God loves good people and so he picks the best but it will not be Coffey s death and the salvation of the cruel world. Our world does not deserve such a miracle as John
This movie get to think about timeless values: forgiveness, good, love...Yes, there is so many heartache and pain in the world, but maybe without it we can't to perceive all those beautiful things that exist also. And we needn't to forget that there is always a miracle in our life.
The gift of foresight and healing...Is this really a gift? Or this is a curse for a man who has it? I think about it when watch Coffey.
Although all that unfairness and cruelty which he feels every day he doesn't stop to do good. And there is no greater superiority than kindness.
Good day.
The film itself is very interesting. I saw him completely, and I can say with confidence that kindness sometimes punished. We see this in the life of John Coffey. And in the end he asks for death, tired of his gift from his good heart. But even going through their «green mile» comes in all conscience, trying to help everyone.
Many people today do not have enough of his kindness.
i have not seen this film and it is hard for me leave any comment. But i can say different - i am now write «green mile» in line of search ^) This conversation is like as confession. It is so true, deep, emotional...
i am going watch it now
I engoy watching...
It's wonderful film, one of my favorites! Trere are so much sense and the truth. Because we are encircled by anger, betrayal, hypocrisy, pain and suffering. But there is always good. John Coffey is striking confirmation of the fact that we can make the world better by our own efforts, love, mutual aid and compassion to each other. For all this we mustn't possess supernatural powers necessarily. Just need to remember that we are people and treat others the way we want to treat you. If we would do a good deed every day, the world will be better)
Hello, Marat. You get my audio from the second lesson, I can not wait for links to the third lesson) Thank you for your reply!
From the first frame right through the final cut The Green Mile is astonishingly crafted picture that is extremely hard to fault. I like that this movie expertly mixes film genres: it's part prison flick, part supernatural mystery and part drama. Aside of its wonderful story, there are characters here, that you grow to love, such as paul and John, but yet there are characters that you really grow to hate and that brings me to unbelievably fantastic perfomances/ What is moral of the film? People always want proof that God trully exists. But when He tries to show this us we can't believe in that and just say-it's devil's work. The good can appear in most obscure of places.
If you want to become better you must see The Green Mile! I like the idea of this film that justice will win no matter what happens! That eventually everyone will get what he deserves. When you see the films like that you understand that goodness is infinitely! That people should be kinder and not simply!
I like the protagonist of this film, he is convincing even more than a wonderful actor Tom Hanks! Of course John Coffey is more significant!
Marat, thank you for this lesson!
This is epic movie. Watched it twice. First time when I was a little 6 years old kid, I didnt understand it. But then when I grew up, I watched it second time and I love it. Film was made in 1999, but it is still on the second place in top 250 movies that ever created. Film makes you to re-think about a lot of things in our world: society, relationships, war, feelings and so on. Can't write many words about this film, better to watch it again and again. Great movie! And great actors!
I have never thought, that «Green Mile» will be there as a material for the second lesson. Thank you very much, Marat, you are a magician. This product of the great Stephen King will always touch my soul and I will always crying when I watch it. I cant give the message of the film in the several sentences, because when I'm thinking about it, I want tell so much... But I can prove to anyone that this picture is worth to watch and I'm absolutely sure that it doesn't leave somebody cold.
«Green Mile» is a film beyond all the praise.
and again I have not watched this movie, though my husband recommends it as a good movie, but time has not come yet. so that's the valuable lesson I still can extract only on classes. so I am waiting for the piece from the film which I have already watched which would declare its authoritative opinion on it.
I like this film very much and after watching the episode i've got a wish to watch it again, I will!=)
I've never watched this movie before. Now I am very sorry that I didn't earlier. Of course the actors, the work of the director, screenwriter is enormous — they left a lasting impression.John Coffey appears terribly tired lonely man willing to die innocent but to leave this cruel world...
This is powerful and sad movie, I allways cry when I see this one.
John Coffey was not guilty and didn't deserve to die!
This film has shown to me that there are good and kind people such as John Coffey and Paul Edgecomb. well as all of us should do as much as possible good deals
The biggest pity of our time is people don't believe in miracles, they are too scientific oriented. But world of real magic isn't fairy-tale, it's exist! and only few thousands people have access there. Sometimes we can't explain how it works, but it works!
Unfortunately, I don't like Stephen King's novels. They have special american sense of humor, some rude words — that's not for me. But it doesn't matter in «The Green mile», because you think (during the film) only about poor man, who hasn't confidence of other people. You think about human relationship, about cruel and impunity. And of course you think about time — you can be very old man, but emotion & memories still are inside you. And they are the same. I cried at the end of the film. What can I say? I love mouses.
Jesus Christ theme doesn't give rest to writers and directors. And in usual life everyone decides — to turn the cheek or strike on it. Only the prise of decision is very different — someone gous on the way with a sign «plus» or «minus» without doubts. But someone torments the soul with a universal pain.Unfortunately, the winner is for whom «force, instead of truth».
The clip made me watch the film «The Green Mile» which I haven't seen before. Words fail me. Thanks, Marat.
Good day, Marat!
«The green mile» is the great movie filmed on the great book of Stephen King. In general movie may be called a «moral fable» mostly because association between John Coffee and Jesus Christ is too obviously. And therefore all goodness in this movie was collected in Bible before and movie script and the Bible has many is common episodes such as resurrection, accepting of own fate, rejection of the possibility of the escape and others. Anyway in general this movie makes very strong impression but meanwhile leaves an unpleasant residue for me mostly because of a Bible motives using.
With best regards, Vadim.
I want to thank you, Marat! I'm going to watch ''The green mile'' right now.
Before writting this comment I needed to watch this movie one more time. It is masterpiece of world cinema. For a reason «The Green Mile» always takes up enough top mark in any ratings. This movie is about... it´s so difficult to tell what about the movie. It makes me cry. And I cry every time when I see it. I believe that there is nobody who is disinterested in this movie. This short episode shows us the main topic of this movie. On the one hand this is innocent John Coffey who has incredible superpower to cure, on the other hand Poul is a boss of death row, who doesn´t trust in John guilt. John is sentenced to capital punishment and he wants to die beсause he is tired to live in the world full of violence and pain. Poul must enforce a sentence because it is his job. And it is unknown whom will be more hurt, to John who will go to Heven or Poul who will live a long time with the idea that he killed God´s miracle.
This movie learns us to help those who needs help, to trust even if it is so terrible to do it, believe in miracles and create its with own hands.
Marat, Thank you for the lesson and interesting facts about film. I have never connected Iesus life with life of John Coffey. It was a revelation for me.
Its too hard writing without google translaitor, but i hope it helps me.
Firstly, this pronunciation JK is so hard to understanding. I watch video more than 10, but if im haven't seen dialogue im cant chance to understand... really o.O
Thanks a lot and catch my big SORRY. I see it less time ago but havent time to post here. Really dont know what i can say more about this episode, but hope you send me next.
This episode impressed me with its deeply philosophical context. The prisoner who is sentenced to death trying to calm down the executioner. Its amazing
-Mostly, I'm tired of people being ugly to each other.
This line seems to me opposed to things which was said in the beginning. John is compassionate to man, who should kill him.
So...i'll watch whole this movie again with the subtitles
Thank you for this lesson.
Dear U-can!
With great interest I watched The Green Mile. It is a film about difficult moral issue – a choice between duty and justice. Everybody have to solve a problem of choice because it is the most important question in the life. The Green Mile is a kind of answer to modern discussion about death-penalty legalization. There is not any definite response. But watching this film you become understand that even love can kill; and real evil is not a killer or dark king but an unnoticeable man with rubber truncheon who can live next door. The most evil can do not people who break law but ones who obey the rules. The issue of moral question is what the right thing to do. Which law should we comply – moral or juridical? Who are we if we can judge about innocence and guiltiness? And you? Do you have any definite answer?
Best regards,
your Katherine

Of course I have my opiniis on on every subject discussed, but my role here is not to provide ready answers but to ask though-provoking questions
It was a rhetorical question)))

Thank you for a good comment!
Good day! To me it is complicated to understand such films. here I see injustice, kindness, cruelty, another peace. As we people are strong and it is at the same time powerless…
The Green Mile is a classic of movie. I think this film will impress all each other. John Coffey is the true miracle in our live. He has taught people of many things.I like the metaphor that John Coffey is Jesus Christ. This film taught to love and respect people, to forgive our enemies
What did I like most about this film?
The contests. It’s so deep. It makes you analyze your life. It makes you think about the most important values of life. And it reminds you that each person has its own destiny and is supposed to do his or her best to fulfill it. It makes you feel great sorrow for that “miracle” and understand that you are also responsible for the life flourishing our planet. And you should do your best to improve it and contribute kindness, understanding, wisdom, preventing anger, aggressiveness, fighting.
As for the lessons, the main one is that I have to work a lot, to listen more to be able to understand native speakers. The way John pronounces the words is very difficult for understanding.
unfortunately, i don't watch this film. but, i can that this phrase «tired of being on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain» is very popular. and may be with time it will be catch phrase)
it's incredeble. every time when i whatch this movie, I cry. Every time. I have watched it earlier in english. i think this movie is not so complicated.
A fragment of the film makes us think about many things differently. This is the highest, the main, larger. I want to be and a little brighter and wiser. Excellent acting.
In addition to the actors art and wisdom of the author, I want to note your Marat, the subtle ability to select and fragments, and movies. These «exact hit» teach to learn not only English but also something more than a language. These two factors enhance the effects of exercise.
Surprisingly, I read this episode. This John is very similar to me. At least it was before. When I was little, I also strongly feel the pain of others that are constantly askedGod for death. I was scared to live in this cruel world. Butover time I built up a thick skin, otherwise my nervous system could not stand it.
These words are very close to me and I will learn them for yourself to constantly remind ourselves of the sojourn on Earth, and most important — love of neighbor)
Thank you, Marat, that you so wisely identified the most important words from this movie
I haven't seen the movie, but this episode makes me want to see it! It seems to me that the immortal things are given to the viewers one more time, maybe in a harsh way. I tend not to watch extra emotional movies, because sometimes it can physically hurt my heart. But this movie I will watch. Thank you, Marat!
I liked the movie.
this is a very sad story about how people live their last days of life. They begin to realize their mistakes and to remember the happy times. this story is that people are also bad and good. As John Coffey, who could help people, but people feared and did not want to understand him. Only in the green mile, he received the respect and new friends.
I want all people watch this film , and the world will be a little kinder.
This movie leaves the feeling of deep sorrow and, at the same time, bright hope. Hope that kindness and self-sacrifice are still here and that people feel pangs of conscience.Because it is so hard to believe that in our pragmatic and sometimes cruel world people are able to love and sympathize. In my opinion, these main themes of the film are fully expressed in this extract, which causes the most sincere feelings and that it makes memorizing English words even faster.
Harrowing ending makes you cry your heart out but you still believe in all the miracles which creates kindness-the eternal thing.
I liked much this movie.
It's all about humanity and kindness. This film has got it's own authentic atmosphere, a little bit unreal, but comfortable and sad.
The valuable lessons I gained from this movie are the next:
We should forgive our enemies.
We should appreciate the moment we live in.
And also we must not to lose our faith in people. Everyone is worth to be forgiven.
