Видеоурок английского языка: This is Sparta — Это Спарта!

What are the valuable lessons you learned from this movie?
(Какие ценные уроки вы извлекли из этого фильма?)
Well, this is quite fascinating episode.
Since I haven't seen this film at all, I did not know what it was about.
Now, I think that it will be a good idea to watch it!
This small episode made me think about the features of a real man and his duties in a family. Leonidas is a bright example of a real brave man, father, leader and a husband who can stand for his people and protect their honor, lives and freedom!
As to developing English proficiency, I liked the way Leonidas says: Now, that's a bit of a problem. especially the word PROBLEM! I mean I liked the intonation and also the phrase about rumors. The word «blasphemy» was also new for me. And of course, I am in love with the last Leonidas' phrase: THIS IS SPARTA!
Now I have an idea how I should not behave if I am a messanger.
A good idea to think twice before saying something
This movie, if you are a man, gives you a lesson on how important a strong team is.
The way they fought was based off of strong unity and having the other man's back.
Another lesson would be never let an invader come into your home and take over. This doesn't mean immigration and how «our jobs are being taken by foreigners». That is another story. What I am talking about is having an invader come into your home or country and try to take over.
Be strong, and always have people around that have your back and you have theirs.
Well, we all know that Sparta had very cruel traditions...and this film also shows it very clearly. The last words of a king Leonid in this episode were- This is Sparta...So there is no madness about cruelty or unusual behavior...This is Sparta, there are quite strict orders and everything is unexpectedly. Noone could kill a messenger? Just not in this city...just not in Sparta. Earth and water? what did this mean? is there another way to forgive these words? Just not in Sparta...So where there is an insult, there must be a punishment.
P.S. Sorry for my bad English, but i tried to impress my thoughts.
Hello! I watched this movie, I was he did't particularly impressed, I would say that the film can be watched ONCE, NOT MORE!!
P.S: Marat, I looked twice)))))
Unfortunately I have not seen this movie before this lesson, but happy to look it today in English, maybe I then take some lessons for life, and few of the English, I had already taken)
To: Екатерина
That was a great Comment, I liked it very much...)) Cruel times, cruel morals...)
To: Stella
Yes Stella, that is for the most part a movie for men.
We will also have movies for women in the lessons to come, don't worry!))
To: Natasha
Thank you Natasha, I also received your voice recording!) Well Done!)
So, it was rather interesting to watch this episode. I,ve seen it in russian, but it was so many times ago, i,ve forgotten everything. This episode gives us a lesson how difficult it is to be a leader. Leonid is a good one. He can protect his people, his family, their freedom and their rights to live in such a way they want. Leonid sometimes seems to be to hard, but if it is the only way to save what you set a high value on, everything is possible.
To: Катя
A very good point!
That's right, it is hard to be a leader. If you paid attention it took Leonidas quite a long time before he took his desicion on Xerx' proposal. Before that he saw all the women and children he had to protect and decided to go to death in order to secure life and freedom for his people.
Very famous episode, especially «This is Sparta» words)
Spartan king, Leonidas, must make a difficult decision, and take responsibility for lifes of spartans. He didn't scares of threatens and decides to kill the messenger. In my opinion, it isn't the best way, but Leonidas looks very confdent)
So, this episode shows us another way — way of courage, nerve and strength.
When I saw the episode for the 1st time,I didn't understade many words and when I read it, I understood, that I know all of it. I hope that after this lessons I will understand all the words from the 1st time. Thank you, Marat for this posobility.
To: Margarita
You are welcome, Margarita! ))
It will be much more useful for you to make your own record.
Just try and see it for yourself.
Well done for the guys who has already done that!
I've watched this movie, but in Russian. Perhaps because of this I do not understand the popularity of this phrase — «THIS IS SPARTA». This is a video I watched about 20 times and every time that phrase has caused Shivering, on the weekend going to see a movie in the original, but so far only with subtitles.
I have not yet watched this movie and I don’t think I'll watch. Probably this episode should call respect to Leonidas, who defend his people from invaders. Among the valuable lessons of the episode I would call several stable phrases in English (such as “rumor has it” and “they have already turned you down”). The literal translation of these expressions would have been not clear for me. Apparently, this is the advantage of the spoken language – this way you can learn sentences that you can’t get from textbooks.
Hi!when i looked this episode, english text help me) especially liked me music, which match the atmosphere.thank you for this table and this lesson)
To: Анита, Tanya, Дмитрий and Ленар :
Thank you guys for your comments, we'll have a lot of other movie clips to watch, study and enjoy! )
Unfortunately I haven't seen all the film, but now I know that it's worth to watch.
And thank you about the interesting facts about the film.
So what can I say about the valuable lessons for me... The first one is that you should always think about your words and be careful with them. Don't rely too much on your strong position in society, in collective and remember that it doesn't give you permission to insult other people.
Another lesson is that there are times, when you have to make some decisions that may not be accepted by your opponents, especially if you are a leader and you responsible not only for your life, but the lives of other people.
Also I understood that it's so interesting to learn to recognise different types of pronounciation, especially native speakers'
To: Alsu
Thank you Alsu, it was a great point about not relying on your strong position in society.
I will soon publish 10 lessons from this film as I see it and that point of yours is also there!)
I listened to this episode and understood that i understood nothing:) Then I started to listen again and again...Finally I was convinced that knew every word and repeat out loud!!!
I've never watched this movie, but watching «Знакомство со спартанцами». They are very different, I'll see this movie too, although I had to start it!
To: Landysh
That's very good that you listened to the episode many times.
At first noone understands anything, including me )))
The more we listen the better we understand
I noticed in the films in English very often speak quickly and swallow words. Perhaps aliens think about the Russian film also
To: Landysh
I am sure foreigners think the same when they watch Russian films
I still under the impression about the moment where Leonidas get approval from his «insult» queen.
This voiceless dialog was marvelous. Maybe this is only kingly diplomacy. I am not a diplomat.
Just the same, Man is the head. Woman is the nest. Even in Sparta!
To: Olga
Yes Olga, that was indeed a great dialogue!
What happened during this dialogue?
Both Leonidas and his queen were aware that afrer the messenger's death Leonidas would be killed.
But that were Spartan women who told their husbands before they left to war: «With your shield or on your shield!»
This episode made me think of many things. First of all I remembered that Spartans are known for their cruelty and willpower. Everybody knows about merciless laws of this nation: boys were brought up in rough conditions: little food, few pieces of clothes. They were almost naked and always hungry, their way of life made them steal and learn how to survive, they grew up barefooted whatever the weather was. Girls had not more comfort than boys: they were to become mothers of great warriors. This nation had no sick or elderly people. Most of these things seem to us today inhumane. Though in those times all this corresponded to the reality.
This episode shows us that this nation was led by wise and noble king. We see that before taking an important decision – whether to enter a war or not (because after murder of a messenger there would be no mercy for his people from Persian king) – he thinks about his land, about his people, about the honor of their nation. And finally, he seeks approval of all the consequences that will follow in the eyes of his queen. And she as a true daughter of Sparta gives that approval. We see a striking unanimity of those people.
So this episode teaches us to think about other people before taking complex decisions.
To: Elizabeth
Great analysis!
Hardly anyone could say that better than you did!
Hi,Marat! Thanks a lot for your smart idea to help us learning English in such interesting way.I AM SURE IT WILL BE VERY USEFUL FOR ME.I HAVE HEARD AND WATCHED THIS EPISODE SEVERAL TIMES BUT MANAGED TO UNDERSTAND ONLY PART OF IT.THANK YOU FOR THE TEXT THAT MADE EVERYTHING CLEAR.I AM GOING TO LEARN PART OF IT. THE FILM IS GREAT! LET ME NOT ANALIZE IT.I AM VERY BAD AT TYPING...IT TAKES ME A LOT OF TIME ...
To: Svetlana
Thank you for the comment!
i have never seen this film before, but after watching this episode I would like to see this one сompletely. This episode shows us Leonidas' bravery. He is worthy king, because he does't afraif of enemy and ready to protect his people.
I liked your sistem of learning and wait for new lessons!!!!)
Thank you!!!!!)
To: Эльвира
Thank you, in this course you will get plenty of great movie clips to enjoy! )
In my oppinion, this movie is very cruel and I can not watch it more once time. I can only listen to it for word understanding...
I've looked this film a few years ago. I don't remember I liked it or not. But now, I am astonished. I'll watch this film full and again and in English. This scene make very strong impression. I would take after Leonidas. He is real man )))
Thanks for your lessons. In my opinion Learning English with help small scene from film is powerful!
To: Anton
Thank you! I am sure these lessons will help you a lot
So... I haven't seen the film except for this episode, but I hope I'll find the time to wach it whole.
What can I say about the lesson I've learnt from it... Choose your words carefully, do not ask earh and water, dont insult somebody else's queen, don't bring the crowns and heads of conquered kings to somebody else's city steps, don't threaten another's people with slavery and death. Or you wil be thrown down, because this is Sparta!!!
To: Eve
Cool comment, Eve! )
it is a very good film. I like it a lot. Wonderful play of actors and the interesting ancient story makes this movie nice for me.
As for me, the main thought of this movie, how barve can be real men. About honour, power and courage!
The King Leonidas was absolutely aware, that Spartans met a numerous enemy, represented by Persian messanger,
as well as he absolutely knew, that noone can threaten messenger. And it was easier to submit to the Persians,
cause they had big numerical superiority. But He also knew, that submission ment slavery and humilation for all his
people. That's why he gave a deserving answer to the persian messenger and defended honour of his queen, his people, his land.
He behaved as the great Man, and the great King!
I still didn't see the whole movie. But of course the lesson of this snippet is «Choose your next words carefully». And people don't like the messengers with a bad news or in this movie with threat to their people.
To: Marat
Thanks!
I'm looking forward a new episode!

Sorry, sorry! I havent find my post first, so reposted it. Sorry...
i don't like this film.
i haven't seen this version so i don't know how close it is to The 300 Spartans (1962). what can i say? i like Gerard Butler's acting and i'm sure this movie is interesting enough and for men especially though i'm not sure it is a must-see for me. any way that was the time of great heroes we've been worshipping till now, the time of fights of honor where legends were born.
To: Elena
Don't worry, that's ok!

I hope you will like next clips
To: k-nata
Thanks for a good post!

Now I know some new words. Thank U Marat.
And Sorry for my English.
To: Ira
Your English is not bad, I am sure by the end of this course it will get even better!)
I saw this film in Russian a long time ago. First then I wanted to see new technologies at the movie industry. It was interesting fnd freshly. Since for I haven't remembered about this film. At the moment I like Gerard Butler. But I'm not associated this role with him. Thank for this reminder about it. Now i 'd like to see this film again in English.
P.S. I'm sorry I didn't say the word about value lessons...Cause my Spartans's image was formed earlier at lectures in History!
To: Sergey
That's ok, here we talk not only about lessons but also about our thoughts and impressions we have had from the movies
Marat, thank you for this lesson. Like many others, i have not seen this film before, as well as I didn`t follow what they had said in this episode first and I had to let it run several times to understand. But I see, it seems to be a starting point of the film. There are not so many replicas in this scene. In spite of this fakt, the episode has its energy . We can watch how does the real King behave . I think this film teaches to be a men and to be a leader
Didn't look the movie so I want to express my opinion about this episode.
I think that creators wanted to show not only the heroism of Leonidas but still irrepressible and madness. Nobody and never killed the ambassadors, it's always been unpublished truth of the international diplomacy.
The Ambassador has always been untouchable, but the Spartans lived by its own internal laws, so they therefore against them stated the war. By the way, perhaps because of their inability to agree they have lost the final battle. Meanwhile, we must pay tribute to fearless Spartan king, who went on such a daring deed. That is true heroism, bordering on insanity.
Marat, thank you for this lesson. Like many others, i have not seen this film before, as well as I didn`t follow what they had said in this episode first and I had to let it run several times to understand. But I see, it seems to be the starting point of the film. There are not so many replicas in this scene. In spite of this fakt, the episode has its energy . Sorry. i can`t understand why my previous post looks so strange
To: Rashida and Andrew
Thank you for your comments!
At first, Marat, thanks for this opportunity to learn English watching interesting movies.
I've never watched «300» till this evening, so it was a good reason to watch it all. And after that i've understood the reasons and motives for Leonidas' actions and behaviour. It was his land and people, the land and the people he was responsible for. And after the messenger had brought to his city «the crowns and heads of conquered kings», he understood that there never would be peace in his country. They would be slaves in any case. So he made the only right choice in his opinion: to try to resist the invaders.
We can see really strong man, wise and brave king who knows what to do exactly and believes to his people, traditions, values. I think this is a very good example of power spirit first of all for many people. It is perfect to be fighter till the end if these things ave importent for you. Every historic period nations from other counties have different values and it is wrong to say about good or bad dicissions now
I have never see this film before, but thanks for this episode, i find new interesting words (like «rumors» and other).
If i cant retell the text what i should do?
Marat, thank you for this opportunity make my English better by enjoying world-famous and my favourite films. I saw «300» few times several years ago. It's not a big problem to understand types of characters and motives for such behavior of Leonid and the messenger, but it's a quite difficult for me to explain it in English. I think Leonid is a brave man who loves his Motherland, his people, his family and he takes care about them. Also he is a smart men and understand that he can't afford himself to loose his country, to loose their independence. And, of course, Jerard Butler is awesome!)
To: Michael
If you can't retell the movie just share what you liked or disliked about the film.
To: Olga and Misha
Thank you, those were interesting posts of yours!
I haven't seen this film before. So, at first I want to watch the whole film becouse this part has attracted me. Secondly this part of film remembered me the book by Pikul. It is an interesting expression by Alexandr Gorchakov there:"The guns are speaking when diplomacy is silent"
To: Tatiana
Thank you for the post, the second lesson was sent to you
Perhaps the most important lesson for me was the pronunciation of Gerald Butler, which I could understand only 3 or 4 attempts. This is especially surprising because I always thought that the Americans have the most crisp and clear pronunciation. The film certainly cool, very dynamic and colorful.
To: Сергей
Thank you, the film is really cool!
First of all, thank you for this episode. Usually I don't like films about wars, may it be about the antique nations. But this episode was so emotional that a great wish has appeared now to watch this film.
What about the valuable lesson I have got from this episode. Well, if you want to ask somebody about something you are needed, you have to be respectful and diplomatic.
Actually, I can't say something other about this situation, because it was other Ages and other morals, stronger than now. I can say just that I like very much director's work in this episode. This moment when Leonidas was thinking about his people, his family and he was making a decision about what to answer messenger. At this moment he was choosing words carefully but us usually he did it.
And pronosation of some words was
To: Marina
Thank you for your post. Today you'll get the 2nd lesson
The movie «The 300 Spartans» is the one I have never seen, but much heard of.
This episode is very strong with its intonations and emotions. Something is shivering inside when you listen to Leonidas's monologue and his conclusive «THIS IS SPARTA!». You realize that Leonidas is a king who will not let any intruder come and conquer his lands. Leonidas shows that he and his army would fight for their freedom and win by all means.
«Choose your words» and choose your behaviour if you want to be respected; or stay alive, in this case. Mind your actions, your speech and your attitude wherever you are and whoever you talk to, because you never know what could happen the next moment and how harmful could be the consequence.
Thanks Marat for this teaching course through movies.I hope it getting better my English.I think it is currently learn by heart. If the king Leonidas lived in other country, he would take another soluthion. But he can not.Severe Spartas laws may not people be kind.Leonidas must kill the massenger because he love his family, his people, his Motherland and he want them to remain alive and free.Who will go with swords from swords will die.Thank a lot for this film I have wanted to watch it entirely.
To: Elena and Tatiana
Thank you for your comments! In the evening you'll get the 2nd lesson
Well ,I do not like this film. It is cruel with a lot of bloody scenes. For me, there are too many special effects because of this i can not take game of the actors seriously. The whole atmosphere of this film is not inspired by the feat. However, i like the general idea.Of course Leonid is a very courageous and brave man , truly king.
«This is Sparta!»-F A N T A S T I C. This a real pleasure to hear it in the original.Thanks a lot.
I really like parody of this film- «Meet the Spartans». Thats funny movie i advise to look)))
To: Вероника
That's true — films in the original and in the rtanslation are absolutely different things!
Marat thank you so much for this great project. I guess it will be successful, because it really works.
As for the movie I think the Spartans were very passionate and a lilttle bit wild nation with pretty rude rules of life. And the king Leonidas represented these features fully. On the other hand he just wanted to protect honour of his people, wife, family. And I think he was to behave in this way, that's why there is no matter to condemn him for cruelty and savageness.
Actually, we don't know exactly how it was. So let's enjoy that movie immersed us into an atmosphere of that cruel century.
To: Татьяна
Thank you so much for your appraisal of this project. I am really doing my best to deliver high-quality stuff for you. Your active participation is highly appreciated!
I watched the movie several years ago, but now I watched just a part of it and it still arises strong emotions inside of me. I like all the historical movies cause they show us how people lived and overcame their problems, how they changed their life and even the smallest step made that time changed the future to the best. how people struggled for the country, they had an idea and nothing else mattered, they knew what they wanted and why, they made everything possible ( and even impossible as in the movie) to achieve their goals. I think now there're not so many people who are ready to die for an idea. and that's the problem of our present life.
To: Irina
Great post! Thank you!
I'd like to talk mostly not about the film but about the language.
Of course this part of the film is bright and very interesting to watch. Emotions are are in full swing. It goes without doubt that all of us should learn a lesson from this episode that we should think before to say something and of course use suitable words. To be a good diplomat is not an easy job to do but we should try to achieve our goal.
As for vocabulary and expressions used in this film, I can say that , they are various and some of them are really very useful. There are many modal verbs and due to this film we can understand how to use them in correct way. There are also many interesting words which have very strong and sometimes even negative connotation.
Thank you for this film. It has produced lasting impression on me *IN LOVE*
And this episode also teaches us how it's difficult to be the leader and to make decisions. As a leader I also sometimes have to make very cruel decisions but it's life. Life goes on but rules don't change.
To: Ольга
Thank you for such a detailed comment! )
I watched this movie for the first time. Nevertheless, this episode makes me think about the responsibility of a leader. And about the example, which can be drawn from of his behavior. And as for myself, I concluded that I had forgotten the language is stronger than the thought of this before. Thank you, Marat, for the lesson. I hope that with your help I will be able to restore the previous level.
To: Lara
Thank you Lara! You will see how your English improves already after a couple of lessons
Well, I haven't seen this film before watching this episode, but I heard about it a lot.
While I was watching this part of movie I enjoyed voices of actors, they are magnificient i personaly think. Also i noticed realistic feeling on the Leonide's face, Gerard Butler's play is amazing.
At first I couldn't understand some words, which actors were saying, but when I were watching a lot of times again and again, i heard all words clearly.
The episode teaches me to think before saing something. Also it shows us how must be real men
Thanks a lot for lesson (:
P.S. Spartan's bodies are really handsome
To: Лера
Well, the actors trained for 8 weeks to get such a shape
Hello!
I haven't seen this movie. But I've got my opinion about this episode.
If you're a messenger, you'll be very strong and courangeous.
It'll be better for you, if you haven't any family and relatives according to your job.
Before you will meet your enemy, you must finish all of your business.
Try to find a safe place for speaking with you enemy.
If you're a messenger, you'll own to learn the specific characters of behavior in the region, where you'll go to.
I hope, Iwasn't too bored))
To: Anna
That was good Anna! Thank you!
I tried to watch this film several times, but excess of computer graphichs didn"t allowed me to take it seriously. But if I consider just small part of this film, I can say that Leonidas is true king — he love his people, his native land and he are ready to protect them. And, of course, there is one thing that make him stronger — his wife, who always understands him.
Thank you for this interesting episode!)
To: Инна
You were the first to mention Leonidas' wife as his source of strength. Well done!
I have not seen this movie.
I think, this fragment show us what if you defended at yourself territory it doesn't mean, that you defended at enemy's territory. Persian messenger was too self-confident and this is why got it in the neck Though I haven't understood why Leonidas has arrived so cruelly.
Now, I would like to see this film and to understand morals of it.
I've never seen the movie «300». But recently I read a book about King Leonidas, which did not submit to Xerxes. Leonid’s courage impressed me so much that I wanted to tell my uncle Leonid about the history about King Leonid.
I'm worried!
I like a Leonid’s composure in this fragment. He looks around! He decides that he will be to answer not alone! But he looking at his demos. He sees their coalescence of councils, he feels it ... It's so tangible! More precisely, he has long been in it!
This is true patriotism, which thinking about the benefits of the motherland, the people, relatives. Such a need to learn: not just immediately go into battle, but first weigh everything and wait, «count to 10» and make the right solution.
Thank you!
For me the main lesson of this video:
— Choose wisely the words;
— Know that your authority does not work everywhere, (in the video the ambassador has immunity, and feels very comfortable with forgetting about the danger)
— Good Russian proverb, «with your charter in another monastery did not go»;
— To be the most professional, that means a well-known ambassador to whom are you going to talk.
Unfortunately, the voice service «Vocaroo» would not want work, so just doing a written assignment (wanted to do all the exercises). Also, I apologize for the late arrival in the performance of work. Thank you very much for your work!
To: denis
Well done!
To: Svetik
To get it the neck — brilliant! I guess you wanted to say «получил по шее»?
Well, power it's a dangerous thing, also it's a big responsibility.
Sometimes leaders have to make a hard decisions for the sake of their wards.
The leader should be tough to keep his power, his auhority, otherwise who would follow him?
Leonidas shows all of these qualities, so i think his folks could be proud of their leader. Also it's a very complicated character. He ignores the advises of the close ones, in order to preserve the reputation of his people. Actually i dislike this movie, 'couse i hate such kind of morals
To: Alice Cheshire
Thank you for the comment
Well, I can say, that this movie I've decided to watch because of Gerard Butler. He is one of my favourite actors. And it also fascinating to watch historical pictures for me, although I've never been interesting in history.
I know about Sparta from school's course, not in all detailes, but in this movie I suppose that script-writers, produres and other members of crew did a great work to create the atmosphere of the times, to show how important for people it was to protect their city, to protect their wives and children and to be loyal to their King to the end. I think that the director's idea is worked.
I've got a lot of impressions from this movie and I think it is not for one review. I'm sure, if I'll see it again, I'll be delighted.
P.S. I couldn't ever imagine how it hard to «scrape» our brains after such long holidays
To: Елена
Thank you for the comment.
I'm sure the course will be interesting and useful for you )
I have seen this movie in the cinema a few years ago, but i still remember what i felt . It was an admiration to proud and brave people of Sparta, not only warriors, but also women and children. They was ready to die, but not to become slaves of Persians. The greatest responsibility rest on the King Leonidas shoulders. When he killed the messenger, he understood that practically had signed death sentence to his people. But, on the other hand, he have made the great choise in his life: is better to die standing than to live on your knees. I fully agree with him.
Well... Marat, at first, I just want to say thank you for this posibility to make our english better. Thank you sooo much! I think most people studying English have a problem because they can't speak normally and understand speech of native english speakers, especially a movies in english can be quite difficult to understand. So, I hope this way of learning english will be very useful for us
And now, what about the first lesson and the video... I've seen this film before, but it was in russian and many times ago. Of english phrases I knew was only «This is Sparta» because it's one of the most popular phrases on internet. To be honest, the first time when I saw the episode I was confused. Of course, I've got the common sense, but... it was still difficult to understand it all before I read the text. There was some new words for me, like «blasphemy» for example
Looking forward to the second lesson
This fragment show us how difficult and contradictory is the role of king.
Leonidas made a difficult decision when he killed a messenger. He perfectly understood the consequences of it.
But to be slavers would be the worst that the King of Sparta could imagine
I like how Batler's hero said: “You threaten my people with slavery and death…”
He is a perfect actor, I believe in his words. He protects his people, his city, his wife’s honour. It’s a matter of honour for him.
As to my English skills… I’ve noticed the intonation of phrase “This is blasphemy”. It was interesting for me. Apart from that such words as “slavery”, “blasphemy”, “conquered kings” were new for me
I haven’t seen this movie before, but I think I’ll do it soon
oh, I just love this film and am very glad that he is the first lesson. The film is brilliant, and the plot is matched perfectly.
this is the best example of how to behave as a real man. A man should not fear, it must be persistent, courageus, decisive, and to bring his case to the end, even if it is not a Spartan.
thanks for the lesson, I will wait for the second
I reviewed the episode many times and want to share experiences.
First, about my knowledges. In general, the text is not difficult and I know many words, but the impression is that it does not matter. When actors start talking quickly, everything is confused, and even basic expressions seem unknown. Personally, I have caused a small panic)
Second, about the film. Once I watched it, but I can't remember the plot. After such bright episode, there was a desire to revise it again. Play of actors is impressive, it is interesting handed the spirit of that time. The history of Sparta is interest by itself: its customs, norms of behavior and ideals. Even in this small episode is all perfectly transferred.
I think it's the instructive episode enough. Often in our life we are talking first and then think. We do not think about the true meaning of our words. Also, we often accuse the other of cruelty and callousness, not knowing his true intentions. Today, I watched another movie- The Descendants — with George Clooney in the title role. This film is similar in meaning to this episode. In these films are showing the role of a strong man, the father of the family head in difficult situations, it is shown how to behave as a real man!
To: Alan
Thanks Alan!
Hope you enjoy all the other films from the course!
To: Саманта
Thank you!
Well like most of us I saw this movie several years ago and don't remember the subject in detail, but the impression that it has exerted on me is still alive. This movie is about the human strenght of mind and dignity.
Personally I learned that you shouldn't give up even if the situation seems hopless at all. It's necessary to struggle for your convictions. Sure I also knew it before the review but so vivid images can't remain indifferent anyone...
...And take this famous «THIS IS SPAARTAAA!!!!!» alone. It has firmly consolidated in our society. Even more I guess for some people it has already become nearly the motto in our modern world and nonsimple life)
To: Darya
Thank you! A very good comment.
So is your English
it is amazing how well matched this episode. This shot passage has a many information. It tell us how cruel were Spartans. We can't forget all peoples must respect each other. Lets think at first than speak. And so, it was aesthetic pleasure: Gerard Butler was сompelling
Unfortunately, I haven't watched this movie. That's why this taken out of general context fragment made an unpleasant impression on me. I could see only unjust murder of the messenger decorating with pompous words (one thing I really liked was that Leonidas kicked poor Persian into a well only after his wife had nodded in approval))). Of course I understood that rudeness and violence could not be the most valuable lessons of this film and decided to learn more information about the plot. So now I can say that the story of king Leonidas and his courages army taught me to unhold liberty, indipence and honour of people i love. Another lesson i learned from the movie is that every word and action has it's сonsequences and you must be ready to response for things you have said and done.
Famous episode, famous slogan... But I don't see any valuable lessons in this concrete fragment. May be because I prefer diplomacy more than threats and murders. Probably Leonid's reaction was proper as a response to messenger's conduct but... cruelty is always wrong in my opinion.
But if we'll talk about the whole movie, there are a couple of useful lessons. The main lesson for me is that you have to be very attentive to trifles and not to undervalue weak persons: they're often touchy and crafty. And another lesson is for men: women can be true and reliable rear for their husbands.
Thanks for lesson
First of all. I should say that this passage was not complete, I saw only the half of it (I don't know way,may be some problem with the Internet). The episode stopped when the man sad «Earth and Water» When I watch English movies I always pay attention to pronunciation and that time I did the same. To be honest, I am not keen on that sort of movies, but it's true that you can take a lot of useful thins from it. Thank you.
Yes, I wanted.) I long selected a suitable phrase while on eyes this idiom hasn't got to me)
I see that the members of our group write posts like true Englishmen.
I cannot do so yet. I'm just a beginner.
After listening to an episode for the first time, I did not understand anything,
but advanced with the text.
It is difficult to perceive fluent English.
I hope your course will help me.
About the movie: I would not want to live in Sparta. There were very cruel times.
This passage shows King Leonidas as a person who does everything for its people and protect their freedom and honor. Selects its people, land and water and is not afraid to exploit for their lives. Although killing the ambassador is the wrong choice, but certainly he had no other choice. That is, he can donate to Council good of his people.
great film. it is true, a lot of special effects, which is not like me full movie review a couple of times. really like the transfer of the plot and psychological picture. were some interesting facts about the creation of the movie, which I don't know. about the effectiveness of such training course while I can not say anything, because this is the first lesson. thank you
I heard this phrase «This is Sparta!» but haven't seen the movie.
I liked this episode. Short and consist a lot of phrases that are useful. Year, it's a bit difficult to listen to this dialog. And everything became clearer after few watching and reading the text in English.
I can't tell that Leonidas has done good or not. Looks cruelly. But I thought «What would I do if I'm a king, my people are behind me and a messahger is in front of me and I'm hearing that someone threatens my people?». Well, I would do the same. Perhaps.
It's hard to decide something when many people are waiting for your decition right here and right now. But I think that as a king you should be always diplomatic even when you are killing an enemy.

Good evening!
It is very intresting lesson and will wait next movies!
Well, I watched this video but I didn't see this film before. I didn't understand authors of comicses like «This is Sparta!». Thank you, Marat! Now I know what does mind authors of these comicses) I was laughing at for a long time
P.S. Sorry for mistakes :[
To: Гульдар
That's ok, noone is going to give you good or bad marks, we just share our thoughts and impressions
Hi there.
I saw this film and I like one. This film based on Frank Miller's comics «300» and it isn't documentary film on 100% but the comics based on real history (you can read in russian there http://oper.ru/torture/read.php?t=982005158). This cinema very precisely pass on style of this comic book.
Genre comics is foreign for me. It is part of another culture, but I understand then is really culture and except purely entertaining comics there is also serious comic book as «Watchmen», «V for vendetta» and «300» one of their number.
First of all I wanna thank you for your course! It's great work. Thank you!
So, I've started to watch this film in Russian about mounth ago and haven't ended it. It seemed so long and slow. This episode is like a good kick for me to watch it to the end. Thanks)
This scene is very strong and powerful.
At first I understand that when your boss is speaking it's better to listen and not interrupt him. As great speaker Leonidas used those words to intensify his speach. So, first — think (think twice), then say.
Second, I think the messenger was so silly when he told Leonidas about last words as king. He believe in his impunity so much and he forgot about main rule: never underestimate your enemy. So, next lesson: Be on your guard always even if you think you are right!
Finally Strong Man ask his woman for her opinion, her approval. It's impressed me much...
And I can not imagine another final for this talk with Persian.
By the way I tried to record my voice and it sounds so silly. It isn't easy to be convincing. I didn't dare to send it ((
And I've watched this episode about 15 times, and spent a lot of time to write this message (( so I hope I'll be more efficient next time:) Thank you that I began study English again!
I’ve looked through the comments and was surprised that such many people have never seen this movie. By the way, I saw it several times.
All right, now some words about the episode. I think it’s one of the most memorable moments of the movie. Especially the expression: “Madness? This is Sparta!” I was impressed by self-control of Leonidas. We can see a brave and strong man. And it’s doesn’t matter who he is... the king, the commander or the breadwinner. He is a person you can rely on, who can lead the way. And of course, he choose his word and that more important, he is responsible for his words and actions.
As concerns the valuable lessons, imho they are:
1) If you decided to do something, do it without a shadow of a doubt and be ready to consequences.
2) You should carefully prepare for negotiations.
Oh sorry, I don't know why my comment looks so strange
Good night! I have insomnia
I have seen this movie several years ago, and this one appeals to me.
I have never been good at listening. And after the first viewing I have understood only a few phrases and separate words.
What do I think about the episode? I am sure that most of us will agree with me, that original movie makes stronger impression than the movie with russian translation. And even this legendary phrase «This is Sparta!!!» in the Russian version was not appreciated so menacingly. А little about actors: I liked the voice timbre of messenger. It was low and so magic. Gerard Batler perfectly looks in such role like this. I have remembered at once the film with his participation, Law Abiding Citizen. The protagonist could not protect his family, but he could revenge for de ath of his wife and child. It was cruel, but it was fair.
Leonidas protected his family, his people who believed in their king. How could it be otherwise? Because this is Sparta!
My valuable lessons are it would be better to view English movies in the original or sub-titled and you should think a little before saying something to man who hold the steel in his hands. And what else...ah... physical exercises work wonders. What a torsos of Spartans!
PS While I was writing this comment I learned some more words. I have some problem to record my voice .
I´ll try to do it again.
Marat, thank you for making my brain work.
Thanks for this course!..it's very interesting and unusually)
Actually,I have't seen this film before, one of the reason is I don't like action historical movie (maybe except «Gladiator» with Russel Crowe).Other reason is I think this film look like near two hour of messy fight and sometimes action scene breake by seldom speech (often very LOUD speech),and after that rude and bloody fight continue. But I agree,it's look very awesome (although almost all film was performed near huge green cloth).
And I also actually respect author of this comics Frank Miller, because he is create rather strange, but very exiting stuff.
But task is about lessons, which may get from this short part of film.I think,Spartans it is example of True Man whith his better qualities:brave, honor, responsibility for other people, beauty strong body...=)
But,if this movie consist only from this scene, movie would be a very famouse for this scream «THIS IS SPARTA!»
Good day!The episode has caused interest in this film (I have not seen it).I like historical films, has always admired the courage and bravery main characters.Although all of the words I know, but I can not hear.Began to hear after a few listens. Forward to progress in their learning, thank you!
I watched the episode of 300 Spartans yesterday. I haven’t watched it before and after watching I really wanted to watch this movie. I like historical films, but I don’t prefer actions, I like more drams and comedy, therefore I haven’t watched it yet…It was very short episode, but I was attracted by the play of actors and music…...really fantastic music. I want to know what end will be of this movie, but I haven’t made a decision yet to watch it at first in English and then in Russian, or on the contraryJ
Good day.
If you recall the movie, I liked it. In this passage, we see that it is ready for a man to protect his family home, his people. Regardless of the accepted rules, Leonid challenge to a very strong opponent, and stands up to the end for the sake of all he holds dear.
In general, a very strong impression on the movie.
I regret to say, I have never watched this movie before, but the episode made me think about finding time and enjoying the film. It is hard to make many opinions about the scene without knowing much. Anyway I will give it a shot, I think the messenger didn't have that right to mention: «They may be your last as king» and how he could even say anything about being diplomatic. There is no diplomacy at all. Yes, Spartans were famous for their cruelty, and messenger was supposed to know it, and it was his stupidity to make angry the king. And for it he paid the most valuable price-his life. So, even nowadays, we should choose the words carefully.
Hello! I heard about this film earlier, but didn't want to look it because not especially love films like this... But a few days ago before switching off TV I have seen that this film begins, and for some reason it seemed to me interesting... But I didn't continue to look it — I wanted to sleep — it began past midnight... And today, when I opened your lesson, I was pleasantly surprised In general after watching this episode I even more want to see the film entirely as it appears that my favorite actor Gerard Butler acts in it
First of all I want to thank for providing video.I haven’t watched this film before but heard much about it. That little episode shows about hard work of main hero in this movie.
He is courage, strong, adventurous and full of fighting spirit warrior. He is a true leader of his people.I don't really like this type of moovies: they have too much pain, hatred and blood.
I hope next video will be more positive.
But in general I was impressed! Thank's.
This is Spsrta! Ho-ho-ho
i don't watch this film. perhaps i watch it later.
about this episode. There are shown how difficult make decision, when you're the king and of your decision depends fate of your people and state.
and, why such a small episode? maybe do a little more?
I haven't watched this movie, but those two minutes has intrigued me. we all know that Sparta had a strong army about which compose the legend.
Such a reputation they have their sweat and blood, and of course such a hard attitude to the enemy. We see this in the episode. I think the lesson of this episode is the fact that if you are the ruler of your decisions and determine the fate of your people, you have to take any responsibility and be cruel.
Hello!
Thank you very much for the opportunity to learn English interesting!
I have seen this film a few years ago and didn't remember about what it. I liked that it was little part of all film. It is hard to hear when you don't understand speak, but so interesting do it again, when you have read the text. It i about lesson^)
Now i will say some thing about valuable lessons from this film. I very liked when Leonid looked for his queen and get her agreement. It is very important for man have support.
We always know what way we need choose. But sometimes we can doubt it. And only our heart can say to us right thing. Leonid loves his family, people, contry and ready to death from it.
I spied to destionary 4 times) i like it
I have seen this movie before. It made a deep impression on me. Affect the daring, patriotism, nobility these people.
I wish that this things not lost in the world today.
We know what the final was expecting Leonid and his soldiers. But remember this battle even now. And heroes are not always the ones who win.
To: Natali
«heroes are not always the ones who win» — great point! Thank you!
First of all, thank you, Marat for this couch lessons.
I've also seen this film before and unfortunately it hasn't made impression on me... But in general I like historical movies, such as Troy and The Last Samuray.
What about this episod, I was attracted by music and the last frase «This is Sparta», it was grate!
Also, such words like Madness and blasphemy were new for me...)
So, thank you a lot) I will wait a new lessons...)
I've never seen this film. may be because I dont like historical movies. It was complicated to me to see the movie without any subtitles. Some words as «conquered and blasphemy» were difficult to pronounce.
Thanks.
I'm sorry for too long silence — I have too many work, but there is my answer.
This haven't seen this movie, but I know the story about this polity and I hope that in this movie was shown story same as school book. Sparta was the extra military city with a unique society where cult of the power was dominant. When Persian king Xerces trying to take spartans territory he send delegacy with offer to give up. On answer this delegacy was killed (this episode is our homework), and Spartans squad, which count three hundred warriors, goes to «Fire gates» to take a battle with Persian army. During the battle the persian king offered to surrender to this squad, but spartans warriors prefer to death instead surrender, because «warriors that died in battle didn't lost, but warriors that prefer surrender — is dead».
With best regards, Vadim.
Oh, it's so much time has pass since my english practice...it's so interesting to begin lerning!
I think that videolessons will realy informative and helpful to me!
About lesson...
I have never see this movie before and was have to replay this episode many times and use the text to be sure that I got it. It was difficult a bit=)
About episode...
Was emotional! I liked it, especially «This is Sparta!!!» I felt situation thought myself, Leonid very braveheart, he is righteous king! he loves his people, he loves his queen and will give nobody insult and threaten them!!
Marat, thank you a lot for creative lerning english!=)
I found those interesting facts about the movie much more interesting than the movie per se. What I've got from that video is that every team of tough guys always has the toughest one to stand for it and beat the evil.
Thank you for this episode,I really love this movie) and I like your approach to learning english this way.after watching this episode I understood that it is easy for me to translate, but it is so difficult to speak english and to impress my thoughts.after reading some comments to this episode (I think it's another way to improve english ) I was impressed of peaple's knowledge of history and language)) thank you fo this opportunity)
Phrase «This is Sparta» always will make me laugh, because in the internet there are a lot of jokes with it. I watched this movie in cinema and I didn't like it. It looks like advertisement video called «How you shouldn't make movies». Persians are awful, I can't believe that in Percia were so many freaks and scary creatures. Where did they get that?? Their king looks like gay. And in the movie there a lot of freezing moments. You can admit a few. But if all movie contains this freezing it became annoying you. But I like the parody on this film. Meet the Spartans. Watch original and then a parody. You will laugh a lot )))
My impression of this episode is 'Don't wake up dragon inside of me!' This is like warning. For one strong will come other strongest.
When I listened to this part, I understood nothing. After listening to it for some times it became clearer. But American English is harder to understand than English English (for me). I didn't watch this movie, I didn't like it. That's why that was hard to understand their speech. But even now I think this lesson was really useful for me.
Certainly, it is impossible to study history on the American films. From real events remains too little. The market and промо is dictated by the rules. «300 Spartans» not an exception. On the first place not a historical reality, but unusual characters and the details often invented. However, all it doesn't reduce advantage of a film. After viewing I took books and have read real history of Sparta, Persia and in general relations of Europe and Asia. I am grateful to a film for it.
Well, I watched this movie quite a long time ago and don't really remember the point (even when it's well-known story). First of all, it impresses with its martial spirit, how warriors stand for their choice and pride.
I also liked how Leonidas and his wife support each other. This movie is not just about being hero or sort of, but it shows family values as well.
Sparta is small, but it had proud-hearted people. The amount means nothing when you stand for something you really believe in, for what you care the most.
Hello, Marat,
I quess why you have chosen this episode & this film for the first lesson of your course, especially taking into account the comments of the students/listeners/viewers (how should we call ourselves — those who started to learn your such an attractive course "Hollywood English ?). It's really wonderful, it's sort of brainstorming =) . But to my mind the actors' English is too fluent and not very clear, distinctive for the beginners (Sorry for my opinion).
But on the other hand, it is one of the valuable lessons (which you have asked us to highlight after watching the movie): this difficulty makes us watch the episode for a few times (not looking into the script). The other valuable things are: pronunciation and intonation of the native speakers, some phraseological units, etc. No doubt, I've looked through the previous notes, comments that's why I wouldn't like to repeat obvious things that a person should always think before speaking and be responsible. Nevertheless, these things are really true to fact.
Let me again express the gratitude for your choice
Looking forward to the second episode.
Faithfully yours,
Alla.
Marat, thanks a lot for your project. I do understand what a great deal of time it needs.
I watched the first episode with great interest several times. And unfortunately was not able to understand all the words. I like the intonation of the actors. I even enjoyed it but I found it rather difficult to imitate the pronunciation of the speakers as my voice doesn’t sound the same way. It would be much easier for me to imitate the women voices. My voice doesn’t allow me to express all the power and will of the characters. While listening and repeating I thought that you would include other episodes with women voices. And I hope it would be easier for me to imitate their speech.
As for the story itself I can say that it is very valuable and makes you think about relations of people, of our contemporaries. It’s not a new idea that though surroundings of human beings have changed people themselves, their personal characteristics, their relationship with each other, their attitude to the main values in life haven’t changed greatly. I even dare to say they are still the same.
The main lesson is the following. I think, if you want to communicate successfully you are to know your communicator as well as yourself, or try to feel and understand him. You are supposed to understand his values and patterns of behavior, you should foresee what sense he puts into each word you are saying otherwise you may fall down like that careless Persian who was too sure of himself and thought that his post and his mission were able to defend him and gave him the right to insult his enemy. Our life is valuable and we should protect it ourselves. And we should remember that we are not given the right to offend other persons.
I liked the way the Persian pronounced the phrase “Choose your next words carefully, Leonidas. They may be your last as king.” But saying this he revealed their attitude to the king and focused attention on his weakness. No doubt it inflamed his rage. And at the same time increased his responsibility and power for such key decisions as saving and defending his people, his water and land that belonged to him. That phrase reminded him that he was the king – strong, brave, and cruel to his enemies.
Sorry for making such a long story.
To: Marina
Thank you, that was a great post!
I watched this movie at the first time with my boyfriend, who really love it. So I had to watch it He was very excited, but for me «300» is just a movie. I liked special effects & total colors — golden brown.
Marat, thanks for the movie! Perhaps I'm one of those few people who have not seen this movie. Thank you for a violent episode too!
Leonid is the king of Sparta. He had to be cruel for the prosperity of his people, his wife, his homeland. I know from history this story. The film shows the events of the battle of Fermopils. This battle was decisive during the Greco-Persian war. Leonid and his 300 brave warriors steeled in the way of the great persian army. The phrase «This Is Sparta» became very popular and famous. Something like the visit card of this film
Hello everybody!
As for me I've watched this movie before.
If you don't focus on historical base you may simply enjoy with colourful graphic and handsome heros). I like ancient times and its brave and courageous spirit. To my mind Sparta was the brightest example of opposition to tainted enviroment. They built society with help of discipline, hard work and belief.
Talking about lesson I want to mention that I pointed word «blasphemy» (it was new for me).
Hey. In my opinion a very cool idea to learn English while you look familiar movies. It is a pity that such a procedure is not used in my school in the study of language as confident that it has attracted more than boring rote learning, but without it, too, anywhere. I am sure that your lessons will help me to study more thoroughly prodozhit such an important language in our time. thanks in advance.
I have already sent my voice message. I like to do it and I'll wait the next lesson. Please, send it as quickly as you can !*IN LOVE*
Oh, thi is excellent a movie.Me was watch pleasant. It is power a armys and determination Leonidias, importance a womens.
Dear U-can!
Watching this episode we become witnesses of the historical events occurred in the ancient Greece. This is a story about very bold and fearless people who lived under harsh environment. The main lesson I learned from this movie is that being a guest one should choose an appropriate words to speak with the host. If you are an ambassador you should not make a demand or offend other people who live in the country which does not belong to you. Territorial claims meet a negative reaction as a rule. Sparta was a very cruel police where human rights were not a value at all. The Spartans are the warriors who were able to kill a weak child or an old man. They had not any sacred thing except haughty temerity. So it was at least silly thing to come to Sparta and to demand Earth and water. I can only conclude that Persian were very self-confident and short-sighted people if they could do such a crazy thing. They knew nothing about foreign policy.
Best wishes,
Since I haven't seen this film at all, I did not know what it was about. Now, I think that it will be a good idea to watch it! it's really '' to think twice before saying something''.without this text I wouldn't understand anything. It's so interesting-original english intonation!!! thank you for this material!!! I hope that you'll spend me the second lesson!!!
Thank you for interesting ideas in the study of English with the English-language films!
I know this film, saw it before. Now looked over the fragment of film several times and I can assert that the last viewing qualitatively differs from the first.
Lessons for me are such.
Firstly, to frequent view new mental tints are threaded in relation to the idea of film, its embodiment on the screen, games of actors. A film is strong the idea and actor mastery. This episode demonstrates it brightly enough.
Secondly, certainly, instructive, to listen living English speech, try to reproduce maximally close on a pronunciation, intonation.
In general, I've got an interesting experiment. It is very good for me. I'd like to continue.
Thank you, Marat Safin, that you offer such interesting ideas!
The movie itself has left nice impressions to me, no matter i have enjoyed it a number of times, it's not becoming boring. The main idea coming through the story is to stay yourself whatever threats you, remember who are behind and what's following.
p.s. The way to improve english by watching movies really appeals to me because it helps to put in use the expressions i've met before, but never tried.
It's really interesting! I saw this movie the first time and many words I didn't understand, but after reading the translation and transcription of all became clear. And I'm going to watch this film.
Thank you!
Marat! Thank you for this video and opportunity to listen to original tongue.
I've never seen the movie but maybe someday...
Hard to think of any valuable lessons for I' m not really sure I got the idea right.
The true king should be responsible for his people, it's sometimes hard to give a rebuff and refuse to bend under the strain of other states and politicians. But in this episode we see Leonidas breaking the rules to give happiness to his people. Sorry our country can't have this kind of strong and determined president.
There are also some expressions that I should learn, so thank you again for that!
So,thnks Marat for this episod, I like it very mush, first of all because Jerard Butler my favourite actor. And of course I learned new world, excellent to train my speeche. In my opinion it was a good idea.
Oh, I like Hollywood for it's producing dreams.
May be we don't even realise that, but a lot of things we know about the world we know thanks Hollywood.
And this film is the great example of that. Yeah, we've learned at school about Acient Greece and Sparta and all the stuff. But we haven't learned the characters of that people, their lifestyles, сustoms deeply. So, movies give us an opportunity to meet cultures, to visalise THAT time, THAT culture, THOSE people and the way of their thinking.
Of course, there are a lot of wrong details in the films and critics always point it out in their statements. But as for me, we shouldn't learn history by movies. Movies are great to catch the spirit, to meet someone's vision on that subject. Yeah, there was Leonidas, there were Persians and there was a conflict. But who knows, what the real events and dialogs were so many times ago...
Well, Hollywood suggested its own point of view. To agree or to disagree is viewer''s choise.
Thanks for the episode, that also includes the legendary words, that had been repeated thousands times by my friends :'This is spartaaa!'
I didn't watch this film up to the end, although I tried to.
It turned out to be too much blood, violence and war for me. I prefer films about love
But the comments above inspired me to try again
By the way the subtitles really helped a lot to understand every single word.
So, first of all, thank you for the choosen episod, it was really good one. I`v never seen this film, but like everyone I now this great phrase which finishes this episode. Secondly, I found some new words which will reach my vocabulary.
The valuable lessons I learned...I were really impressed with relation between Leonidas and, I suppose, his wife. Their approving glances...for me it was the most powerful part of the episode. And of course, I can`t miss the feelings that Leonidas has expected in relation to his people, their protection and freedom. It was really great episode. Thx
Hello Marat!
Well, I haven't seen this movie before and I'm sure I'll watch it very soon cuz I like the episode!
As for valuable lessons, I think one of them is that leader should be responsible for people who count on him. If you do one wrong step you'll lost their trust. And of course relationships between Leonidas and his wife are incredible. Their speechless dialogue is kind of fantasy. It the ideal of understanding between two people.
Thanks for you lessons!
I can't wait for the next episode!
Best wishes,
Yana.
I didn’t watch this movie and won’t watch it, because I’m prejudice against Hollywood films.
What about the valuable lessons I learned from this episode it’s the king’s ability to make the decisions. Film producer could show how hard it is – make the decision for the whole country. King realizes this great responsibility and before he said his word he thought about his earth, all people of his country, about his beloved wife. Thanks his this quality king Leonid has immortalized his name.
If honestly, I haven't taken from the episode any valuable lessons. I don't like to watch this movies, therefore I can't appliciate this episode. But to try to say correctly the text was for me very useful. Though some words was difficult.
This is a very interesting way to learn English! I think you expect people to say that they need to be more diplomatic, but that's not the lesson I've learned. I've learned a new word «blashemy» and that nothing can make a man more handsome like really white teeth))
This video shows for us how to be a real man!
My favorite part of this film!
Thanks, for movie! )
Thanks for great movie! it is a very intresting lesson. What i learned from it? .........
to be a mуssenger is a dangerous profession

First of all, this movie is about honor and bravery.
1. Few people that protect their home can defeat a plenty of enemies with a selfish expanionst ends
2. Do not despair in front of inevitable death
3. Your feats, triumphs and defeats will serve as examples to the next generations, so we should act decently every time we face choices.
4. And, of course, we should stay true to the ones we love no matter what it costs.
I don`t think I had very useful lesson with this video. Only maybe several phrases like «a bit of a problem», «rumor has it», «turn down» and that`s all. I would like to watch a video with more important information for real english speech in my life.
